What’s Your Calgon?

Filed in odds and ends

Depending on how old you are, you may or may not remember the Calgon commercial…the one whose slogan said, “Calgon, take me away,” along with the visual of a woman relaxing in a bathtub.

I found myself thinking about that slogan today because I’m getting ready to send the manuscript for my second sewing circle mystery to my editor at Berkley Prime Crime. And after months of working on this book, I’m in dire need of a little self-pampering.

Unfortunately, I’m not always very good at slowing down long enough to pamper.  I want to…and I try to…but the moment I do, I see all the other stuff I should be doing–laundry, cleaning, writing a new proposal, getting caught up on my freelance business, etc.

And as sad as it is to admit, that stuff always wins. It just does.

Today, though, I’d like to find and savor my very own Calgon. I’ve earned it and, quite frankly, I need it.

So I come to you for suggestions…

When you accomplish something that’s taken the bulk of your physical and mental energy for weeks, how do you recharge your battery?

Pampering? What’s that? Is that anything like this “me time” stuff I’ve been hearing about? Sometimes, the only moment I get to myself is my annual trip to the gynecologist.

Pampering. Ok, I’m weird but I love walking through a book store with a little change in my pocket and a large mocha.

Swimming. The hotel we stayed at this weekend had a heated pool that was heaven. Just sliding into the water made me happy.

Really good food. Right now I’m on a San Sai kick. I love digging in and having it just perfect. Nothing is worse than bad food. Seriously.

LOL on your annual trip, Beth. Sounds like you need to be listening for pampering ideas, too!

Lynn, I have to say I sat up tall and did a “mmmm” when I read the one about walking through a bookstore…

I just had a pedicure–the ultimate pampering. Though my book was done in February, I’d been putting off my Calgon moment until I caught up with life. But now…ahh. A small break before life takes over again.
