The kernel of the quote stuck with me, even though I couldn't recite it verbatim. Years later, I found the words printed on a card--at a bookstore, of all places. I've carried that card in my wallet ever since. It says: Free coffee with 10 stamps! Sorry, wrong card. It says: "Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” I like that quote. It reminds me that I needn't burn with brilliant light. I just need to show up and shine a little, every day. Now then.
