What Would You Do?

Here’s a fun one to dream about…

If someone handed you $ 50 Gs and told you to do whatever you want with it–with the only stipulation being you can’t use it to pay bills–what would you buy/do?   dollar

Tell us.

Hmmm…can’t use it on bills, so there goes the idea of taking some time off to write.

$20k on fixing up the house, $10K on guitars and related gear, $5K on computers, $15K on travel (book conferences and beaches) .

First I’d hire the New York Yankees to play my minor league baseball team. j/k

Long vacation is on the top of the list.

Then lots of car parts for the Capri I’m restoring.

(I have a boss that asks similar questions. His spin is “in 24 hours” or “you can’t have anything to show for it in 30 days”)

    I’d pay bills. Ok. so I can’t.

Hmmm, I’d buy a house. Which would add another bill. LOL. But maybe if I walked in with 50K I’d have some bargaining power.

And then I’d have to find the money to fix me up an office/reading room. Chocolate brown walls — wall to ceiling bookshelves — an oversized chair/ottoman and a roll top desk. And a landscape by my fictional artist who I killed off in my current manuscript. (It’s a dream, right?)

I would take my whole family on a 10-day European vacation and with the rest invest in my retirement home.

Ok, I guess my answer didn’t post last time. So rethinking…I’d still try to go around the rules and pay bills.

But since I can’t…I’d buy a house or as much of a house that I could with $50K which would give me a new bill. But I’d buy a house with a room I could make into my office with chocolate brown walls and floor to ceiling bookcases. A roll top desk and a overstuffed chair with ottoman to curl up with my cat and a book. And a landscape by my fictional artist that I just killed off in my current ms.

I think I’d take half of that and rent a place at the Jersey Shore for the whole summer. I’d put 15K in the bank for when it’s time to buy another car. And the remaining 10 K would be for a trip somewhere overseas for a week. Where, I don’t know. But somewhere!

Two words, three syllables, four years: College Fund.

There’s my 50k and then some.

I would think very seriously about working part time and finishing a Phd so I could teach full time…..and keep a bit for a nice vacation somewhere with a beach once I finished!
