Where, Oh Where?

**I apologize for this post going up late, but when I tried to get to it last night, the server that handles this blog was down.**

Today’s question comes from Rita in Kansas…  mail

Q: Where do you write?

A: I love when this question is asked of writers because I’m always curious to hear what other writers say, too. For me, I tend to enjoy writing away from home (Panera being one of my favorite spots). It keeps me away from the distractions of every day life (laundry, dishes, cleaning, kids coming/going) and makes it harder for people to find me (my booth of choice at Panera has spotty cell coverage).

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), when you go to the same place to write all the time, you get to know people…which brings conversations…and laughing…and, well, the same distractions you left the house to avoid in the first place.

And, sometimes, it results in a part-time job.

:/

But I digress.

One odd l ocational quirk I have is the need to have my back to a wall when I write. I’m not sure, exactly, why this is…perhaps it’s the fact I get so engrossed in what I’m writing I don’t want to be surprised?!?!? Then again, it could just be the fact I’m a bit odd.

So there you have it. That’s the lowdown on where I like to write. If you have any questions to contribute to the mailbag for future Thursdays, ask away in the comment section!

During the nice weather I prefer to write outdoors….either on the front porch which has a magnolia tree overhanging it, and the front yard is surrounded by Spruce trees — so it’s pretty quiet.

If I’m at work and have a few hours between clients I’ll go out to a table or sit in the grass near the inlet of the lake.

Moving water, birds, breezes etc all seem to clear the mind to be creative and to escape to my fictional world.
