Sun Spots on Faces and Flip-Flops on Toes-ies…

Posted under Bits & Pieces Fridays 9 Comments

Okay, so there I was, typing away on my latest manuscript when I started humming a song that didn’t match the music being piped in from the speakers above my head. The next thing I knew, the humming morphed into whisper-singing…

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things.

Hmmmm. Which got me thinking about the fact that winter is finally loosening its grip once and for all while spring’s knock gets louder (finally).

So, in the spirit of the song I have no idea why I was humming (and, evenutally, whisper-singing), I figured I’d share some of my favorite spring things…

Favorite hint spring is finally on the way: When the sun that filters through the doors and windows is warm enough that it makes me sleepy. Ahhh, love that!

Favorite flower: I love the smell of lilacs. In fact, if there’s a lilac within a quarter-mile radius, I can smell it.

Favorite spring activity: Long walks.

Favorite sign-of-spring article of clothing: Anything short sleeve. And flip-flops. Sure, I realize flip-flops are more of a summer thing but…really, who cares? The joy of slipping my feet into my vast assortment of cute flip-flops almost makes up for the snow-white skin my legs and arms are taunting me with in the mirror every morning.  Must. Remedy. Soon.

Now it’s your turn? Tell me some of your favorite things about spring!

Where, Oh Where?

Posted under Writing Thursdays 1 Comment

**I apologize for this post going up late, but when I tried to get to it last night, the server that handles this blog was down.**

Today’s question comes from Rita in Kansas…  mail

Q: Where do you write?

A: I love when this question is asked of writers because I’m always curious to hear what other writers say, too. For me, I tend to enjoy writing away from home (Panera being one of my favorite spots). It keeps me away from the distractions of every day life (laundry, dishes, cleaning, kids coming/going) and makes it harder for people to find me (my booth of choice at Panera has spotty cell coverage).

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), when you go to the same place to write all the time, you get to know people…which brings conversations…and laughing…and, well, the same distractions you left the house to avoid in the first place.

And, sometimes, it results in a part-time job.

:/

But I digress.

One odd l ocational quirk I have is the need to have my back to a wall when I write. I’m not sure, exactly, why this is…perhaps it’s the fact I get so engrossed in what I’m writing I don’t want to be surprised?!?!? Then again, it could just be the fact I’m a bit odd.

So there you have it. That’s the lowdown on where I like to write. If you have any questions to contribute to the mailbag for future Thursdays, ask away in the comment section!
