The Welcome Knock of Summer
Filed in Bits & Pieces Fridays
In honor of the unofficial start to the summer season, I figured I’d base today’s Bits &
Pieces on one of my favorite times of the year…
1) What would be your ideal summer day trip?
2) If you could go anywhere in the U.S. for vacation this summer, where would you go?
3) Best childhood vacation memory?
4) Ever have a summer romance? How old were you?
5) Favorite sounds & smells of summer?
Enjoy your holiday weekend!

1) What would be your ideal summer day trip? Visit a CAVE! Seriously I’m hooked on cave exploration.
2) If you could go anywhere in the U.S. for vacation this summer, where would you go? Besides Orlando (grin)…or home… Drive through the south to visit states I’ve never been too.
3) Best childhood vacation memory? The camping trip with my first step father. We swam at night in the lake, lots of kids around and I found my lucky dime.
4) Ever have a summer romance? How old were you?17 I met my first boyfriend at Kuna Days and he got sent away to live with his brother two months later. I guess I was a bad influence (HAHA)
5) Favorite sounds & smells of summer? When I can get there, the crash of the waves and smell of the ocean. My son called me yesterday from his stop on the beach while he was job hunting. He held out the phone and let me listen to the ocean. The kid knows me too well.
Otherwise, fresh mowed grass.

2) If you could go anywhere in the U.S. for vacation this summer, where would you go? San Diego.
3) Best childhood vacation memory? Hiking in upstate NY with the Boy Scouts.
4) Ever have a summer romance? How old were you? No.
5) Favorite sounds & smells of summer? Waves at the beach, steaks on the grill. Fresh corn (not a smell or sound, but goes with the steak!) Fireworks.

1) Ideal summer day trip? The beach. I’d get there early, sunbathe and swim…get a milkshake at Barnacle Bills (Ortley Beach, NJ) and then wander around the boardwalk.
2) Anywhere in the U.S? I’d say Hawaii. Specifically Maui.
3) Best childhood vacation memory? Anytime we got to go to the beach.
4) Summer romance? No.
5) Favorite sounds/smells of summer? Love the sound of the waves at the beach. I love the smell of Water Babies suntan lotion (reminds me of my girls being little). I love the sound of the sea gulls (because I know I’m at the beach). ahhhh….

1) What would be your ideal summer day trip?
Southern Illinois, Shawnee National Forest. Awesome trails there.
2) If you could go anywhere in the U.S. for vacation this summer, where would you go?
Gulf of Mexico. Without the oil, thanks.
3) Best childhood vacation memory?
Actually, it was a winter vacation. We drove to Florida for Christmas. And it snowed.
4) Ever have a summer romance? How old were you?
As they say: Old enough to know better, too young to care.
5) Favorite sounds & smells of summer?
I’m right there with you regarding suntan lotion, waves and gulls. And then, fresh rain on hot blacktop, creek banks, just-cut grass, pitch boiling out of hot railroad ties, and the ozone after a lightning strike. Love those, too.

1. Galena, IL – Everyone tells me it’s a great scenic drive there, and the town is gorgeous too.
2. Too many choices! I want to take Chris to Texas to see the area I grew up, but I also want to go back to San Francisco, and I want to go sightseeing in the Washington DC area.
3. Every year, we went to our family reunion. We would go early and stay with my aunt and uncle, who lived on a farm in rural Erath County, Texas. Part of the time I’d usually go stay with my cousin in Stephenville, Texas and we’d do what teenagers do; talk and laugh and hang out and stay out late.
4. Yeah..same usual vacation, met a guy at the pool. I think I was 15
5. I guess the smell of thunderstorms. Here where I live now, early summer means the smell of peonies and roses all over town.

1. Daytrip down the shore!
2. I’ll have to go with Hawaii on this one
3. Wildwood Crest a week each summer visiting Aunt Babe–mini golf at Safari golf on the boardwalk, reading in the sand chair
4. Summer romance….hmm..I don’t think only in the summer but I remember a swimming date with my first boyfriend…summer after 8th grade, we dated for 8 months…
5. Coppertone!!

1) What would be your ideal summer day trip? A CRUISE ON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER
2) If you could go anywhere in the U.S. for vacation this summer, where would you go? COASTAL MAINE
3) Best childhood vacation memory? SO MANY – MY PARENTS WERE BIG ON ROAD TRIPS – EDUCATIONAL VACATIONS THAT WE DIDN’T KNOW WERE EDUCATIONAL! WE SAW A LOT OF NATIONAL PARKS AND NATIONAL WONDERS. I WOULD TAKE ANY OF THOSE SUMMERS TO REDO AGAIN LOVING OUR SING-A-LONGS IN THE CAR WITH MY SISTERS & PARENTS
4) Ever have a summer romance? How old were you? THE BEST WAS WHEN I WAS 25 ACTUALLY.
5) Favorite sounds & smells of summer? SOUNDS – BLUE ANGELS PRACTICING AT GEN. MITCHELL INTERNATIONAL – NEVER TOO FAR FROM ANY HOUSE I LIVED IN; SMELLS – BARBECUE-ED ANYTHING!
Enjoy your holiday weekend!
