Summer Lovin’

There are just certain things that scream “summer” to me…

1) Reeces Peanut Butter Cup milk shakes at Barnacle Bills in Ortley, New Jersey.

2) The sound of kids playing outside after dinner.

3) Lazy days spent reading.

4) The beach.

5) Corn on the cob.

So, with that in mind, I come to you with some fun summer questions. Ready?

1) What’s your favorite summer drink?

2) What’s your favorite summer food?

3) What’s one thing screams summer for you?

4) What’s your favorite season? Why?

    1) What’s your favorite summer drink? Ice cold water. I am but a simple man. (Read that as you will)

    2) What’s your favorite summer food? Huckleberry fudge. Had it in Glacier National Park many moons ago. Sometimes, when it’s 4 p.m. in December and shadows are already overtaking the streets of my little town, I close my eyes and think of hot days in Montana mountains, a brief hike, a lasting impression, and I taste Huckleberry. But I can’t do it for long; short streets around my town and the locals will run you down, they see you walking around with your eyes closed.

    3) What’s one thing screams summer for you? The bass rub of bullfrogs calling from the cattails.

    4) What’s your favorite season? Why? Autumn. Because the trees burn in campfire colors for a few moments, then wither and sleep. Like us. The air is sweet and sky gentle blue. And autumn is the gateway to the holidays, Halloween and Thanksgiving and Christmas, when the lights shine brighter for all the darkness.

    Love these!

    1) Favorite summer drink? I have to go with the milkshake! Yum.

    2) Favorite summer food? I love smoked ribs on a grill. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

    3) The one thing that screams summer? The beach. Everything about it…from the lotion to the sea gulls to the crash of the waves.

    4) Favorite season? I have to agree with Mary and Joe on this one. I, too, love autumn. I love the briskness in the air, the perfect temps, the vivid colors, the sight of my crock pot (which usually goes into hiding in the summer), etc. That said, though, I’m a beach girl through and through.

Favorite summer drink: tea-ade: 1/2 glass of tea and other 1/2 with sweet lemonade
    Favorite summer food: homegrown tomatoes
One thing that screams summer: flip flops and the smell of suntan lotion; lightening bugs; fireworks
Favorite season: It’s a tie–Fall for all the reasons previously mentioned; or Spring because after a dull/drab winter, it’s uplifting to see the yellow forsythia bushes bloom, red tulips popping their heads up, and in late spring/early summer seeing the baby ducks along the lake shores.

    1) What’s your favorite summer drink? Sun tea. No sugar, no lemon, just ice

    2) What’s your favorite summer food? Watermelon – maybe – no watermelon. Although Huckleberry’s are mighty fine, especially in a syrup on hotcakes. Fudge? I don’t know about that…

    3) What’s one thing screams summer for you? Flip flops.

    4) What’s your favorite season? Why? Fall. Because you can do things and it still feels like summer, and it’s my birthday….

1). Sweet iced tea, preferably sun tea
    2). Corn on the cob.
3). The dark green color that marks mature leaves on trees, and everyone’s emerald green lawns here.
4). Spring. After our Illinois long winters, it’s just such a relief to feel the Sun’s warmth and see all the colors coming out.

    1) What’s your favorite summer drink? Icey, icey water with leloms

    2) What’s your favorite summer food? Peaches, corn on the cob, crab

    3) What’s one thing screams summer for you? The smell of ripe peaches. My pawpaw had peach trees and he’d send us scrambling up them to get ripe peaches to make ice cream with. Now, I think he only planted to trees so we’d have something to do in the afternoons when it got super hot. We always picked way more peaches than ended up in ice cream.

    4) What’s your favorite season? Why? Summer. I LOVE hot weather … and peaches. : )

Aimee, why am I suddenly craving peaches? And I don’t even eat them?

    PEACHES!!!!!

I love to roast them in the oven with a little turbanado sugar and serve over vanilla ice cream. Simple, quick and easy dessert.
