Ooh…aah
Filed in That's Life Wednesdays
I spent part of yesterday at the Museum of Natural History on West 79th Street in New York City. One of my favorite parts? The blue whale. It’s one thing to imagine how big such a creature is and quite another to stand under a to-scale model and actually see it.
Wow.
One of my favorite facts about the blue whale? An adult can grow as long as three school buses and weigh over 400,000 pounds (that’s about the size of 24 African elephants).
Wow.
Your turn. What’s a must-see museum or exhibit you’ve seen? And any cool facts that stick out in your mind from your visit?

Two museums leap to mind. First, The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Ill. It’s amazing that clothing and letters from that era survive today. In the traveling exhibit, they had a scrap of cloth with Lincoln’s blood, and the bed in which he died.
And then the Steamboat Arabia Museum in Kansas City, Kansas. The artifacts from that wreck are perfectly preserved and well displayed.

I’ll second Joe’s nomination of the Lincoln Museum. My hubby who just goes to humor me even liked this one. Make sure you see the Ghosts in the Museum presentation.
I went to the Museum of Transportation last week. Which is heaven, if you’re a five year old boy. LOL
But I went to St. Genevieve MO last weekend and stopped at the Crowne Winery’s Tiger enclosure. Great place, and they really take care of the animals. The only problem was my pictures show more bars than tiger.

That’s the first place I always go when I go to this museum. Does the mammoth still greet you when you enter?
My favorite all-time museum is the Lincoln Memorial. I don’t know what it is, but if I’m in DC..it is a must see.

Dru, did you know that you can get into the museum for free during the last two hours??? Just found that out yesterday. Nice surprise! I don’t remember the mammoth greeting…but I was like a kid in a candy store so not sure if I missed it!

I haven’t been to many museums in quite awhile — however I did get to see the King Tut exhibit recently, that was pretty cool. But I have to say that one of my favorite things to do is to go to an aquarium — I never tire of it and unfortunately don’t seem to have the opportunity often.
One exhibit I would like to see is the Bodies Exhibit at South Street!

Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto…it’s amazing what torture women have endured over the centuries for the sake of fashion! And people wonder why flip-flops are so popular???

Mary, my old hairdresser in MO went to some purse museum while traveling overseas. He LOVED it! As for flip flops, they’re my staple shoe!
