The Honor of Your Presence is Requested
Filed in Reading Tuesdays
Ooooh, ooooh! I’ve got a fun one for today.
If you could have dinner with five FICTIONAL characters (can be all from one book or different characters from different books/authors…but they should be some of your favorites), who would you choose and why?
Cool, huh? I’ll be back with my guest list soon!

Easy peasy… The four women from the Accidental Bestseller. SO I can pick their brains for writing ideas. And …. the female coronor from Tess Gerrison’s series…Maura Illes?

Nancy Drew
Trixie Belden
Kinsey Milhone
Goldy Schultz
Jessica Fletcher
These are all gutsy women who don’t cringe in the face of danger and have a great time solving mysteries/crimes with ingenious methods. I think their stories are fascinating!! And they are just SO CLEVER!!

Tricky…Okay, here goes:
Sherlock Holmes
Mr. Darcy (as long as he looks like Colin Firth
Miss. Marple
Nancy Drew
Hercule Poirot
Not to original, but I think it would be a cool dinner, nonetheless

Roarke (In Death series) – because he’s so handsome and he can give me financial tips
Lula and Grandma Mazur (Stephanie Plum) – because they would have me laughing
Tori & Leona (Southern Sewing Circle) – because Tori would be a good friend and I would love to hear all about Leona’s adventures

I really need ten, five is too small a table, and I might as well cook for more if I have to entertain! But here goes:
— Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice, because she saved my behind at a dinner party with a Supreme Court Justice and other smart people (long story), and she has nice manners
— Arty from Bill Fitzhugh’s Organ Grinders, because he is just too strange and delightful
— Dorothy Sayers’ Lord Peter Wimsey, although I might have to smack him for being such a know-it-all; if another know-it-all would fit better with my other guests, maybe Yoda
— Atticus Finch, because he is the best person I’ve ever known, real or fictional
— Dumbledore, or, if he’s not available, Preofessor McGonnagall (although she terrifies me)
— bonus kids’ table attendees: Flavia deLuce, from Allen Bradley’s delightful books, Scout Finch, Ramses Emerson from Elizabeth Peters’ books

I LOVE this topic, Laura!
1 & 2. Annie and Max Darling
3. The second Mrs. De Winter (because I KNOW Annie could get her first name out of her)
4. Cal Trask from East of Eden
5. Sookie Stackhouse

Amelia Peabody
Vicki Bliss
Jacqueline Kirby
Karen (Kara)
Mrs. MacDougal
All these are characters from various Elizabeth Peters/Barbara Michael’s books. If I’m allowed to “cheat” they can bring assorted partners, or in Mrs. MacDougal’s case, her dog!
If they did that then, that would add:
Emerson
John Tregarth (and possibly Schmidt?? How delightful!)
With Jacqueline who knows?
Mark (Kara’s husband)
And I certainly wouldn’t complain if Pat and Ruth tagged along with Mrs. MacDougal!!

So I left this reply, and then told my husband about the blog post. He said, “Kate, right?” He means Kate Shugak, from Dana Stabenow’s series…
Yep, should have invited her… Amelia and Kate at the same table…oh my…(notwithstanding they’re from two completely different times, don’t you LOVE imagination!)

Okay, I get an invite to everyone’s party, too, right?
GREAT answers!!!
I’m stuck.
I know I’d want:
1) Lula from the Evanovich series
2) Leona
3) The guy who can’t keep his robe closed in the Nina Quinn series (can’t remember his name right now but he was a hoot)
4) Junie B. Jones (sorry, but the kid used to crack me up when my girls were little).
5) ???? I’m not sure. Still thinking!

What fun dinners these would be. I would have to invite Amelia Peabody but of course the Professor and Ramses would show up to rescue her; Charlie Moon (James D. Doss); Betsy Devonshire (Monica Ferris); Claire Malloy (Joan Hess); and the Rev. Clare Fergusson and Russ Van Alstyne (Julia Spenser-Fleming); and Bennie Harper (Earlene Fowler).
Shel, I would come to your dinner if Kate Stugak was there too!

Thought of another one.. China Bayles and Ruby from Susan Wittig Albert’s Pecan Springs series. Would love to “meet” both of them.
