No More Excuses

The dog days of summer are great. They really are. But they have a way of really messing with routines. At least for me, anyway.

Next week, that changes.

You see, come Monday, my 11-year-old will be boarding the bus for her first day of middle school (I can’t believe it, I just can’t believe it) and then, come Tuesday, my 15-year-old will be bound for her first day as a sophomore. And you know what happens the second they’re both out the door on Tuesday?

All procrastination (which seemed to rule my life this summer) ceases.

Really.

I have a schedule brewing in my head:  Write all morning. Workout (which I need to do) as soon as I’m done.  Then, and only then, will I run errands/do chores.

So that’s my plan. Anyone else determined to do things differently this fall?

For me, it’s getting my weight down. I’m on a four day diet. Day two.

Okay, before you laugh, I have to say I have committment issues….

I started a kettlebell workout yesterday. Got half way and I walked. Today my plan is to walk some more. Hopefully our days of high heat index are over.

The diet is kind of a mixture of everything. I’m doing two diet shakes – breakfast and lunch. Then a healthy dinner. And any fruit/veggie I eat doesn’t count in my calorie count. What’s the chance I’ll over indulge in veggies? Slim to none…

So wish me luck this week. If I’m successful, I’ll stick my toe into the water and go for week two.

Now that I won’t sweat just by looking out a window, I plan on walking every day. I must – or have the belly fat surgically removed!!

(Lynn, how do you like the kettleball? I recently read about it in Prevention. Is it easy to handle? Can you feel the impact?)

I got a fitness plan and now to start it. I plan to continue eating healthy and between the two, the weight loss should be steady and slow.

Lynn, I’ve never heard of the kettleball diet? I’ll have to check it out.

    Mary/Dru:
I love the kettleball. I got the work out off prevention.

    Dru – it’s a weight with a handle not a diet. LOL

I like the ease of working with the weight and it’s not as bulky as the dumbbells in my opinion. I keep it by the couch for when I’m watching the weight loss shows like Dancing my A** off and now Jackie’s Thinervention.

I like the idea of surgically removing the belly fat however… grin….

OK — I feel obligated to throw a few tips in…

Lynn — great job & kettlebells can be fun (but make sure you are not ignoring any muscle groups — they are hard to use for certain exercises)

    Dru — I’m expecting great things :)

    An overall tip for exercise:
To lose weight you get more bang for your buck strength training–it raises your metabolism all day long. Cardio is good to increase your endurance and keep your heart healthy.

Also, walking is terrific to stay moving, however–it is how we get around all day–so we are pretty efficient at it. So if you want to get a good workout you either need to walk really fast or up hills, or try to incorporate some other kinds of cardio on some days (bikes, ellipticals, etc)

**Sorry, can’t help it, it’s what I do all day ;-)
