Away We Go

Filed in odds and ends

Well, the latest book (a romance) is done and turned in to my editor.  Now it’s a matter of waiting to see what she thinks and then making any tweaks she may want. But I’m pleased with it. Very pleased.

Now, as much as I’m craving a weekend indoors (reading) to shake off this post-deadline exhaustion, I am off on a weekend with dozens and dozens of middle school aged girls. Destination? Some winter camp. Reason? Girl Scouts.

Looking out my window right now, it’s raining. Not quite sure what the rest of the weekend will hold, but if I can ride down a hill on a sled and sip a little hot chocolate, I’ll be good. ;)

So tell me, were you in scouts as a kid?  What was your favorite overnight outing and why?

Me? I was a scout myself for eight years, a head leader for eight years, and an assistant for another troop at the same time I was heading one for four years.

P.S. You may have noticed it took me a little longer to come back this week than I stated on Monday. As for the reason, you can read about that over on the Stiletto Gang today…  (click HERE)

I’m an Eagle Scout and camped year round (minimum one night a month) for either 4 or 5 years.

Favorite was the week hiking in the Adirondacks. Saw a bear, went from freezing temperatures at the top of Mt. Marcy to sweating in the hills in an hour. Generally a great time.

Winter camping was always fun. In the rain and ice, not so much as when there was snow. (of course being able to write your name in the snow was always fun for a middle school boy :)

Chris, I can actually remember you in a scout uniform in high school. Wow. A week in the Adirondacks sounds really, really cool.

I was a Girl Scouts up until the Juniors. We moved to a new neighborhood and they didn’t have a girl scout troop nearby. My first full-time job was at the headquarters of the Girls Scouts of the USA.

Wow, amazing how many of us were in Scouts. I was in from third grade until sophomore in high school. One of my girlfriends’ mother was our leader that whole time. We took a 10 day trip around Oklahoma about 7th grade. Scout camp was always my summer vacation as my father didn’t take us on many family vacations. He was always working on fixing up a house to sell.

The Doll is a junior right now.

They were doing an overnight at Hershey Park, in tents, when the most horrendous thunderstorm came through. Into the cars they went at 10pm and back home they came.

Every camping trip they’ve done it has stormed. Every one.

Dru, wow, I had no idea you worked for the scouts. Very cool!!

Carol, scouting certainly created a lot of wonderful memories, huh? I have many from my years as a scout and then new ones as a leader.

    Aimee, Ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
