A Nod To The Good

Posted under That's Life Wednesdays 10 Comments

I can hardly believe we’re in the final day of yet another year. It seems like it was yesterday that I was writing my end-of-2013 blog.

In honor of the day, I figured I’d share a few of my highlights from the year. I hope you’ll do the same in the comments…

Some of my 2014 highlights (in no particular order):

1) SHUNNED AND DANGEROUS (Amish # 3) was picked up for Doubleday and various other book clubs when it released last March. That was a first for me!

2) I pitched a brand new cozy series idea to my agent and then publisher. Two different publishing houses were interested, but, in the end, I signed on with Berkley Prime Crime (Penguin-Random House, again).  The first book in the series will debut in June 2016.

3) I went on my first official “writers’ retreat” in November and had an absolute blast! I came home with so many ideas and amped-up motivation!

4) My last MRI (in June) showed zero disease (MS) progression so that was awesome!

5) My oldest completed her first year of college (I survived!) and my youngest completed her first year of high school (still surviving–sniff! sniff!).

6) I was selected to be an ambassador for MS Lifelines.

7)  I signed an extension for the Southern Sewing Circle Mysteries (bringing my total contracted book count to 27).

8) I hit all of my work goals for 2014–though one was subbed out for something else.

9) I wrote my want-to project from start to finish (but it still needs work).

10) I got to spend a few days with Mickey Mouse. 🙂

Now it’s your turn.  Tell us one, tell us two, tell us ten. Highlights are fun to share and hear!

Happy New Year’s Eve!

Recappin’ & Plannin’

christmas2014cookiesbI hope your Christmas was full of joy, family, and a few unexpected surprises. Mine certainly was.

On Christmas Eve we made and decorated sugar cookies (I’ve included a before and after photo for you to see, as well as one of me holding up my favorite), had a delicious dinner, watched Rudolph, and went to church. Christmas Day brought presents, a full-out christmas2014cookies2bbreakfast spread, dinner, a drive through light display, and a treat bar. christmas20143b

Now, of course, it’s time to look ahead to the next “big” day–New Year’s Eve/Day.  Here, New Year’s Eve is a quiet affair with loads of appetizers, games, and thoughts about the year ahead.  To get ready, I’m trying to hunt down some easy (but yummy) new appetizer recipes and tossing around the personal and professional goals I want to commit to for myself in 2015.

So, if I may, I’d like to cheat off of all of you just a little.

1) Any favorite appetizers you can steer me towards? If you have an actual recipe to share, even better. 🙂

2) Do you set goals? And if so, how do you keep yourself on task?

Merry Christmas

Posted under odds and ends 2 Comments

christmasIn the interest of the holidays, this will be my last post for the week. I’ll be back on the 29th.

In the meantime, here are a few bits for those interested in playing along.

1) Favorite Christmas song?

2) Do you have a must-have food for Christmas breakfast?

3) What do you want to eat for Christmas dinner? Leave nothing out.

4) Walk us through a traditional Christmas Eve or morning in your house?

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Christmas Bits

Posted under Bits & Pieces Fridays 5 Comments

I think I’m going to get rid of our writing prompts on Thursday. They aren’t such a big hit.

Today, however, is Bits & Pieces so let’s get to it!

1) Snow man or snow angel?

2) Wrapping paper or gift bag?

3) Gifts you hated most as a kid?

4) Have you ever re-gifted? If so, tell us one. 🙂

Did He/She Sneak? Or Fall Asleep?

Posted under Writing Thursdays 2 Comments

Let’s try a writing prompt today…  writergirl

A single paragraph is all you need.  It could put us at the beginning, middle, or end of this little scenario (that’s your choice).

Put us on Christmas Eve with a kid who is dying to meet Santa. You can make it funny, poignant, sad, whatever.

Just try…every time you’ve all tried, it’s been good stuff!

Not Digging Technology

Posted under That's Life Wednesdays 5 Comments

So I got pushed into the 21st century yesterday when my trusty, if not archaic  flip phone was upgraded to an I-Phone.

In the 12 hours I’ve had it (seven of which was spent sleeping), I’ve hung up on someone, missed a call, and generally been confused.  And that’s only trying to grasp calls and texts. At this point, I have no intention of using it for email and Facebook–I simply don’t want to be that connected. When I walk away from my computer, I want to walk away.

Right now, I want my flip phone back.

This will pass, yes?

Big Screen-ing the Classics

Posted under Reading Tuesdays 2 Comments

While at the movies over the weekend with my daughters, we saw a trailer for the  movie, IN THE HEART OF THE SEA (the latest Moby Dick movie).  If you haven’t seen it, you can watch it HERE.

What classic novel would you like to see made into a movie (or remade if you think an earlier version fell short)?

I’d Like…

Posted under Dreamer Mondays 10 Comments

christmasgiftsI feel like having a little fun (probably because today is going to be rather non-fun thanks to a dental visit). So I’m hoping you will all humor me with today’s questions:

You’re sitting on Santa’s lap as a true believer.

1) What would you ask for today?

2) What would you want in your stocking?

3) Which reindeer would you like to meet?
