Throw Back Bits

Posted under Bits & Pieces Fridays 4 Comments

I’m heading back to high school today for my alma mater’s annual “Career Day.” school desk

Seems fitting for today’s Bits & Pieces to be school-related.

1) How long has it been since you last stepped foot in your high school? If it’s been more than fifteen years, could you still find the cafeteria? The library?

2) Favorite high school teacher?

3) Least favorite high school teacher?

4) Could you still find your locker?

5) Class you still use most today?

Won’t You Try?

Posted under Writing Thursdays 5 Comments

I can hardly believe January is almost over.  That said, I wish winter would be over, too. I’m itching for some warmer weather and a chance to be outside. It’s been so cold the last few days, even the cat doesn’t want to go out (and he’s a hooligan).  writergirl

So I thought maybe I could entice some of you into writing something today?

I’m thinking a paragraph from the view point of a kid in school…looking out the window at snow.  You can make him/her like it, or hate it…just let us feel what he’s feeling about the weather.

Day 3

Posted under That's Life Wednesdays No Comments

Ahhhh, Day # 3 and a reminder that life has it’s own plans and they don’t always coincide with ours (like the snowstorm that had its fingers on Day # 1 and # 2)…

Instead of heading to the bookstore and having a “date for a treat” with my youngest after school, said youngest is home…with possible strep. So now, my excursion out of the house will be to the doctor’s office for a strep test.

You can’t make this stuff up, you know?

On a side note, my day also has a WebEx in it now, too. I’m becoming an MS ambassador (which means I get to help others who are newly and not-so-newly diagnosed with this disease). In March, I’ll be attending some training, but first we have this phone training to get through.  And it had to be today.

So that’s the way Day # 3 is shaping up.

I think next time I get to take a little time off (which will be late August), I’m not telling anyone… 😉

Day 2

Posted under Reading Tuesdays 4 Comments

Well, Snowmageddon wasn’t quite as bad as they predicted. Or, at least it wasn’t here where I live.

We still got snow (a decent amount), but nothing catastrophic. And if we had strong wind last night, I slept through it.

Yesterday was officially Day # 1 of my Guilt-Free Time Off. I spent 6 1/2 hours of that time in NYC at the So You Think You Can Dance auditions with DS # 2. He made it past the preliminary round and got to audition in front of the show’s judges (which includes Paula Abdul this year).  It was a fascinating process but sllloooowwww.  Sadly, DS # 2 didn’t make it, but that’s because, after 6 1/2 hours and then an hour-long lunch break, the folks doing the show seemed to suddenly be aware we had a blizzard coming at us and decided to cattle car the audition for about 15 people (mind you, 24 kids went over 6 1/2 hours).  Those 15 didn’t get the single audition time to do their prepared dance.  They just shoved them on stage together, turned on music, and then said dance.  Only 2 got pulled from that.  It was a shame, because DS # 2 might have had a shot to move on if he’d had his time. Sadly, though, Mother Nature prevailed.

Life lessons. They can be rough at times.

Today, in light of the snow, I’m seeing much of today being about relaxation. I will read some of my Little House on the Prairie Cookbook, bake something, and maybe watch a little TV. We’ll see…

What are you reading right now?

And So It Begins…

Posted under Dreamer Mondays 4 Comments

It’s 2:47 a.m. (E.T.) and I’m writing this blog while waiting for Snow-pocalypse here in the northeast.

snowmanWe got some snow over the weekend (about 6.5 inches)…enough to have to shovel (I swear, my aches from shoveling get worse every year).

But, I did get to make a snowman with my daughter, too. And I’ve been waiting to make a snowman all winter (of course, when I got home from my daughter’s dance show at school about 4 hours ago, I removed the scarf and hat from our snowman since–in about 14 hours–we will no longer be able to see this guy amid all the new snow…

Fortunately, on  Friday evening, even before this threat of impending snow-doom for today/tomorrow was finalized, I had the presence of mind to buy lots of baking ingredients…

If you’re in the path of this storm–stay safe.  If you’re not–don’t laugh too hard, okay?

P.S. If I’m not on here tomorrow, it’s because we have no power (in which case, the laughing must cease).

Bitty Bits

Time for Bits!

1)  Theater or movie?

2) Hike or bike?

3) Crash with friends or stay in a hotel?

4) Hawaii or Alaska?

5) View pictures on a computer or in an album?

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Ta Da!

Posted under Writing Thursdays 2 Comments

Well, I did it. I finished the revisions/tweaks/edits on my latest book (Amish Mystery # 5) and officially sent it to my editor at 1 p.m. yesterday afternoon!

My grand celebration on the immediate heels of pressing “send?”

A shower.

Do I know how to celebrate or what? 🙂

Oh, and I got to work on a few blogs and interviews I needed to take care of for the upcoming launch of Amish # 4 (SUSPENDERED SENTENCE) on March 3rd. I still have a few more of those to finish up today and then I can truly take some time off.

On my guilt-free-time-off agenda?

1) A chick-flick day (complete with popcorn and chocolate…in bed).

2) Some long walks in the park (yes, even in this frigid cold weather).  A downside to my job is how much sitting I do and my body is screaming at me to MOVE, MOVE, MOVE!

3) Read (so many options…)

4) A city day (complete with breakfast at my favorite haunt, a long walk in Central Park, and a front row seat to the sea lion feeding time/show at the CP zoo).

5) Baking!

6) Maybe, just maybe putting some pictures in some photo albums (I’m way far behind on that).

I’m sure there will be more things I want to do, but that’s what’s filling my thoughts and making me smile right now…

And then, in about 2 weeks, I’ll start writing another book (this time, it will be the 2nd book in my upcoming new mystery series–the one I’m still not talking specifics about yet other than the 1st book will release in June 2016).

So that’s my “writing Thursday” report today…

Five Things

Posted under That's Life Wednesdays 5 Comments

I’ve been a revising/editing fool the past few days and it appears as if I just may wrap everything up today. Stay tuned on that…

In the meantime, I have a question for you.

Off the top of your head, tell me five things that made you happy–truly, truly happy.

Ready? Go!

Pass The Popcorn

Posted under Reading Tuesdays 3 Comments

free popcornIt always seems as if the December/January time frame has some of the best movies of the year.

Yes, I know MOCKING JAY came out in November (and it was very good), but the last few weeks of movies have been fun.

DD # 1 is a huge fan of musicals, so she convinced the rest of us to see INTO THE WOODS shortly after Christmas. I thought it was a fun movie (DD #1 loved it so much she’s seen it three times).

We saw the HOBBIT. The girls and I were pretty lost since we’ve not really seen these movies, but I still enjoyed it. DH and DS # 2 both liked it a lot.

A few nights ago, DH and I saw AMERICAN SNIPER. All I can say about that movie is, wow. And go see it. Really. It’s intense, there’s a lot of blood, but a powerful story.  The theater was absolutely silent when that movie ended (and it was a packed house).

Have you seen any movies over the past month? What did you see and what did you think?

A Long Weekend

Posted under Dreamer Mondays No Comments

It’s a 3-day weekend!

If you have one–enjoy!

If you don’t–try to find at least a little time to relax.

Me? I’m working on edits.
