A Whole Lot of Reading Going On…

Posted under odds and ends No Comments

A CHURN FOR THE WORSE final pass edits are now done. My eyes are a bit bleary (I read 270 pages in 14 hours), but it’s done.  That whole 270 pages in 14 hour thing though? That might explain the ocular migraine I had at around hour 12…  Sheesh.

I have to say, reading it again has made me excited for its release all over again.

I should be getting copy edits back on the short story I just turned in on Monday. Yup. Already. But that’s because we’re hoping to turn this around in the next few weeks.

Then, next week, I have final pass edits on NEEDLE AND DREAD to do and turn in.

One fun piece of news…I got my first look at the cover for ECLAIR AND PRESENT DANGER (book # 1 in my new Emergency Dessert Squad Mysteries).  It is fantastic! As soon as I get the go-ahead to share (which should be soon), I will.

For the rest of today though, I’m doing some regular life chores that need to be done. Like swapping summer clothes for fall/winter clothes.  Not ready for the tan to be a thing of the past, but I do love boot season. 🙂

I’ll be back tomorrow with Bits.

Hangin’ Out

I’m curious about your social media usage.

Me, I’m a FB user. I like and understand that format.  I have Twitter, too, but I just don’t get the allure, I really don’t.

I don’t do Instagram or a Snapchat or any of that stuff.

What do you do? What is your favorite (and why)?

Watcha Doing?

Posted under odds and ends 3 Comments

Well, I finished edits on the short story yesterday and sent that off to the official editor. I have to say, I find it easier in some ways to write a full novel. Not sure why, but I do. Maybe because I’ve been doing full length books for so long that it’s hard to transition to something that’s less than 25 percent of what I normally do.

Anyway, I don’t have a book-related topic today (frankly, I’m beat). Instead, I’m going to ask you about your Halloween plans this year. My youngest is having a party here at the house with eleven or twelve of her buddies–costumes, treats, and scary movies.

Me? I plan on totally hunkering down and either watching a movie of my own or reading!!!

Your turn. What’s Halloween looking like at your house?

The Week Ahead

Posted under Dreamer Mondays 3 Comments

I’m writing this at 2:47 a.m.  I just typed “The End” on what I think is going to be a Christmas-themed short story for my Amish Mysteries series. Daylight and a massive edit will let me know for sure. 🙂

Once that’s done, it’s in to a final-pass edit of A Churn For The Worse (Amish Mystery # 5). This is the last read I will have of the book before it goes into production.

I’m hoping to sneak in a little me-time in the form of reading at some point this week, but time will tell on that one.

What’s on your agenda this week? Besides, you know, making sure you’re candy supply is ready to go for Saturday night…

3) The one Halloween candy you would never give away?

4) Pillow case or bucket?

Have a great weekend!

Camping We Will Go…

Posted under That's Life Wednesdays 5 Comments

campThere’s something about the smell and feel of the air at this time of the year that always makes me think of camping. I guess that’s because the only camping I’ve ever done, with one lone exception, was as a Girl Scout, and we almost always went in October.

At the camp our troop went to, there were A-frame platforms with tarps…and cots. So not exactly true roughing it, you know?

We were taught the proper way to roll our gear into our sleeping bag and tie it off. And to see if we’d done it correctly, we tossed our rolls down a hill. By the time they reached the bottom, you knew who had rolled and tied correctly, and who hadn’t.

Then it was time to claim an A-frame with your buddy and set up your stuff. We’d put our sleeping bags onto the cots (there were usually 2 in a “tent”, if I remember correctly. Maybe four).

While the daytime temperatures were usually pleasant enough, it was often teeth-chattering weather come morning. So before you headed for the outhouse (I still remember the smell of those–ick!), we’d get dressed inside our sleeping bags for warmth. I got really good at that and can probably still do it, if need be.

I remember it always took a little while to fall asleep simply because of the new sounds and being outside. And then there was the time a few girls stuck peanut butter on the outside of several tarps in the hopes of attracting raccoons…

Yeah, they got in some trouble for that one.

We sang songs, of course (Girl Scout tradition), cooked our food over our campfire (I thought that little bowl/pot combo thingy we each had was so cool), and hiked trails. If I try, I can actually still smell the campfire, and hear some of the songs in my head.

So tell me, did you camp at all as a kid? Did you go with a scout troop or your family? And what did you like about it?

Bitty Bits

Time for Friday Bits!

1) Favorite show on HGTV?

2) Have you ever done a project based on a Pinterest picture?

3) Game you can lose yourself in if given the opportunity?

4) Piece of workout equipment you despise? Now liken it to something so we get the gist of how much you truly despise it. 🙂

Have a great weekend!
