One More

Posted under odds and ends No Comments

I’m extending my 3-day weekend (at least blog-wise) to a 4-day one.

I’ll be back tomorrow (Wednesday).

One Day…

One of these days I’d love to write in this exact spot. That’s assuming, of course, that the dinner-plate sized bullfrogs in that pond would stay far away…

On The Tube

Confession time!old-style-tv-set

Is there a reality show that you have a particular fondness for? What and why?

I have two.

Survivor–I’ve watched every season since the beginning. I like watching the various personalities (good character studies, I guess).

Fixer Upper–LOVE LOVE LOVE that show. Something about watching them transform something old and tired into something to be proud of just gets me all excited.

Your turn…

My Inquiring Mind Wants To Know…

Posted under Reading Tuesdays 4 Comments

Today’s Reading Tuesday post is about questions. For all of you…

  1. Have you ever read something you didn’t have high hopes for, but ended up really liking it? If so, what?
  2. Morning or night reader?
  3. Can you read in the car (while someone else is driving, of course 😉 )?
  4. What is the fastest you’ve ever read a book?

A Weekend in Pictures

Posted under Dreamer Mondays 12 Comments

I did some fun stuff this weekend and actually made a point of recording some of it with my camera. I made sure to take some pictures that will end up in family albums, and a few just because they caught my eyes and would be fun to share with all of you.

On Friday evening, DD # 1 took me into the city for my Mother’s Day present. We had a picnic dinner in Bryant Park, saw the show Tuck Everlasting (which was F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C), and had cookies at a place called Schmakarys. While we were sitting a the counter, eating our cookies, I looked up and spotted this guy above the menu board (perfect, no?)…

And this mug on the shelf…

(yup, love this place)

On Saturday, DH and I went to a place called Stonecrop Garden (gorgeous). And even though the flowers weren’t their normal brilliant selves (thanks to the odd weather we’ve had this spring), I still managed to take a cool picture or two…

And these Dawn Redwoods (love these)…

This little “building” for lack of a better word is normally covered in Wisteria…

When we were done with the Gardens, we went to Cold Springs and walked around some vintage (aka junk) shops just for giggles. I spotted a Rose O’Donnell doll (um, why?)…

And the same Barbie case I had as a child (in an antique store, no less)…

Then, on Sunday, the kids and I headed to that same river town to get some ice cream and sit alongside the Hudson.  On the way to the ice cream shop, DD # 2 and her amazing powers of observation spotted this sign…      IMG_2048

And while Heavenly Treasures in my Amish Mysteries is a gift shop, this had to be recorded. 🙂

But wait, there’s one more picture. This was the cookie menu at Schmackarys on Friday night. We tried Cookies & Cream, Funfetti, Chocolate Chip, and Peanut Butter Patty.  If you’d been there, what would you have chosen?

Bits time!

  1. What one word do you think describes you best?
  2. If you were invisible, where would you go?
  3. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
  4. What traits in others are you attracted to?

Have a great weekend, everyone! See you Monday.

The Summer List

Posted under Writing Thursdays 5 Comments

For today’s writing post, I decided to write a list of 10 things I’d like to do this summer…

  1. Spend a day in the city doing all the things I love to do there (preferably in June before it gets too hot and the tourists start flocking).
  2. Make a day trip to the beach.
  3. Check out Mystic Seaport. I remember being there as a kid, but don’t really remember anything about it.
  4. Have a picnic (on a blanket) with all the traditional trimmings.
  5. Have a “just because” party.
  6. Pick a town on a map (within an hour radius) and just go there–and eat at a place I’ve never been to before.
  7. Write a letter to each of my kids.
  8. Write a letter to three people who have brought nothing but happiness to my life and send them.
  9. Watch my daughter act in her first paying gig.
  10. Visit a water park.

Tell us yours?

Just One More Whiff, Please

Posted under That's Life Wednesdays 13 Comments

I thought I’d share five of my favorite smells (and why)…

#1. Lilacs  (I love how they seep in through the vents in the car when I drive by).

#2. Sunscreen–specifically Water Babies brand (brings back memories of my kids when they were little).

#3. Chocolate chip cookies baking (because, really, how can you not?).

#4. An eraser right after you’ve erased something really hard (I spent entirely too much time in grade school doing this).

#5. Bacon frying in a pan (makes me hungry even if I’m not).

I’m telling you, a bouquet of those smells would be heavenly to me. 🙂

Now it’s your turn!

With Fresh Eyes

Posted under Reading Tuesdays 3 Comments

I’ve got a reading-related question for you today…

Part 1:  Name a book you wish you could read again for the first time?

Part 2:  If you first read this book as a child/youth…do you think reading it for the first time now (as an adult) would chance how you view it?
