As part of Monday’s Three Things, I shared with all of you the cover for THE SILENCE OF THE FLANS (book # 2 in my Emergency Dessert Squad Mysteries).

Well, now I get to share the cover of another book with you.  This is DEATH IN ADVERTISING (book # 1 in my Tobi Tobias Mystery series). It will be out February 7th and it is available for pre-order now.  Fun note on this series: the first 3 books in this series will all release in 2017…that means no big wait from one book to the next. 🙂

As for a teaser about the book, here you go:

When Tobi Tobias decided to open her own ad agency, having to moonlight in a pet shop wasn’t part of her vision . . . of course, neither was murder.

Sometimes when opportunity knocks, the door you open leads to a closet. That’s certainly the case for Tobi, whose weekends spent cleaning cages in her best friend’s pet shop may soon be over. She’s just landed her first big break—Zander Closet Company needs a catchy campaign slogan ASAP, and Tobi thinks she’s got the right hook to knock ’em dead: “When we’re done, even your skeletons will have a place.”

But when a real dead body topples out of a showcase closet, she’s about to discover there is such a thing as bad publicity. To save her fledgling business and not get killed by the competition, Tobi takes on a new pet project: solving the murder. But with a stressed-out parrot as the only witness to the crime, Tobi will really have to wing it to put the cagey killer behind bars.

Now, I must get back to writing # 2…

THE Reading Spot

Posted under Reading Tuesdays 5 Comments

For you, what would be the absolute ideal reading spot (can be a specific place as in a city/town or a setting)?

I think mine would be on a deck, overlooking water.

Your turn.

P.S. I’ve put together a summer photo album of sorts for the Whodunit Authors today. If you’d like to check it out, go HERE.

Three Things

I’ve got three things from my weekend to share with you today…

Took DD # 1 back to college on Saturday. While it’s hard to see her go, I’m excited for her as she enters her final year!

DD # 2 and I took a little “us” time along the river on Sunday. Of course ice cream was involved…

And, finally, I got the green light to share the cover for The Silence of the Flans (Emergency Dessert Squad Mystery # 2) with all of you.  The book will release on March 7th and it is available for pre-order now!

For Now…

Posted under Writing Thursdays 5 Comments

How about some writer-ly updates today?

1 ) So after a far longer “break” from writing than I’d intended thanks to one of life’s curveballs, I’m finally getting back in the saddle. What’s interesting about my current work in progress is that I started it nearly ten years ago before opting to put it aside to work on what became the Southern Sewing Circle Mysteries.

It’s tough to get back in the swing of a story if you step aside for a few weeks…it’s really tough after ten years. But after a slow start on Monday, things started flowing. And that’s a good thing!

2 ) I’m anticipating the release of six books next year:  DEATH IN ADVERTISING, A Tobi Tobias Mystery # 1 (February);  THE SILENCE OF THE FLANS, An Emergency Dessert Squad Mystery # 2 (March);    UNTITLED, Amish Mystery # 6 (May); PATTERNED AFTER DEATH, A Southern Sewing Circle Mystery #12  (June) THIRTY SECOND DEATH, A Tobi Tobias Mystery # 2 (July), and  UNTITLED, A Tobi Tobias Mystery # 3 (December).

3 ) I still have a “dream project” niggling at the back of my brain that’s really hoping for a little time and attention from me. Wish I could oblige, but for now I can’t.  Soon, though…

Those are my updates for now.  Any questions?

School Supply Time

Posted under That's Life Wednesdays 6 Comments

With school starting for my college kid in five days and my high school kid in nine days, it’s time to hit up the school supply aisles. smurflunchbox

Normally,  I despise shopping. It’s a known fact. But there’s always been something about school shopping that I love (geek, I know). Year after year, I find myself mentally revisiting my own school days and all the excitement that came with picking out a new lunch box. I swear, if I close my eyes, I can still smell that new-thermos smell…

I’ve tried to remember the various lunchboxes I had along the way. I know I had a Barbie one at some point. And definitely a Smurf one like this one here. And maybe a Brady Bunch one…

My girls had Minnie Mouse and Hello Kitty and Tinker Bell and Princesses. And honestly, when it was time to pick them out each year, I’m not sure who got more excited–them, or me.

These days, my kids are beyond the lunch box stage (*sniff*). Skipping that aisle is kind of sad, but I do peek from time to time. 🙂  postitnotes

But there’s not getting by the post-it aisle. That stuff is simply too cute for words, which is why I lurk in that aisle way longer than I should.

And the folders with the kitties on it like this one on the left?!?  Oh. My. A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E!!

In fact, I just may pick one up for me this year–for the purpose of organizing any and all research notes, of course. 😉

So what was your favorite school supply as a kid? And what office supply item appeals to you most now?

I’m Reading…

Posted under Reading Tuesdays 5 Comments

My elliptical read at the moment is Harlan Coben’s PROMISE ME.  I’m up on all his standalones, but felt it was time to familiarize myself with his Myron Bolitar character.  So I’ve been plowing through the series this summer and only have two more to go before the new release in a few weeks.

What are you reading?

Three Things

Posted under Dreamer Mondays 9 Comments

I came up with the idea of “three things” on my Monday morning as a way to truly see the things I’d done over the weekend. So often the little things get missed against the busy-ness of life and this was/is an attempt to correct that.

Now that I’ve been doing it for the past month or so, I find myself soaking up what I am doing and being eager to share it (big or small) with all of you.

So here are my three things from this past weekend…

DH and I went to a minor league ballgame on Friday night. I got a hot pretzel (always a good thing), the home team won (also a good thing), and there was a firework show at the game’s conclusion…

Saturday morning, a trip to the vet was in order as Angus (the cat) started yanking his hair out by the roots while we were at the beach for a few days this past week. It’s something he’s never done before and he now has a few bald spots along his lower spine.  So I popped him into the cage (he looks less than thrilled, doesn’t he?) and took him to the doc.  She has no real idea what’s wrong with him but they gave him an oatmeal bath to help soothe his skin.  I didn’t see the actual bathing process but they said he didn’t need sedation and that he was really, really good.  Odd cat…

And then, Saturday night, we had a backyard fire…

Complete with S’mores…

While Angus watched forlornly from inside…

Now, tell us three things from your weekend.
