On The Move Bits

Posted under Bits & Pieces Fridays 2 Comments

In honor of the Mystery Train ride I’m doing with a big group of readers this weekend (I finally get to meet our own Debbie S., in person), I figured we should do some transportation bits today.

  1. Have you ever taken a train anywhere (other than commuting purposes)? Where did you go?
  2. Plane, Train, Bus, or Automobile–what’s your favorite?
  3. Longest straight drive (hour wise) you’ve ever done? Where were you going?
  4. Last time you were on a plane?

  1. Strangest place you’ve ever read a book?

  4. If you could buy only ONE book for a small child, what would you buy and why?

Three Things

Posted under Dreamer Mondays 3 Comments

Wow, that was a fast weekend.

But since fast usually equates to busy, finding my “three things” to share from my weekend is pretty easy. So here goes…

I got a package of treats in the mail from a friend on Friday evening. And if you know anything about my love of candy corn, you’ll likely find the contents as amusing as I did…

DH and I went out to a movie Friday night. We saw Sully (I’m a huge Tom Hanks fan).

sully

And, last but not least, my youngest is getting ready to turn eighteen in a few days and so she invited a few close friends over on Saturday night to play games and eat treats.

So this meant I got to bake and later, when everyone was here, I got to listen to the sound of my daughter’s laughter (especially nice to hear right now)…

So yeah, it was a good weekend.  Oh, and one more thing (sans picture) I just have to to sneak in–my longest held friend, who just went in for emergency heart surgery on Thursday night, came through it all A-Okay!!  YAY!!

Now it’s your turn to share three (or, *cough* *cough* four) things…

LookALike

Today’s post is a two-part question.

Has anyone ever told you that you resemble a celebrity? If so, who? mirror

As for my answer to this, I have two:

While working in Borders in Missouri about 10 years ago, a customer insisted I looked just like a woman that is shown at the very end of Castaway (when Tom Hanks delivers the Fed Ex package he never opened on the island).

And then, just the other day, while waiting at the airport for my flight to Atlanta, I was told I look like the mom (I think) on Back to the Future. I need to check that out and see if I agree…

Reading By Osmosis

Posted under Reading Tuesdays 5 Comments

Since I was in NOLA over the weekend, I haven’t been to the gym. And since I haven’t been to the gym, I haven’t been reading.

So tell me what you’re reading so I can live vicariously through you…

Three Things

Posted under Dreamer Mondays 4 Comments

Sorry I missed Friday Bits this past week. I guess I got a little tied up at Bouchercon.

But I’m back, and focused, and ready to get back to work. As for my “Three Things” from the weekend, here we go…

One of the highlights of this year’s Bouchercon was the Second Line Parade that preceded the Anthony Awards. According to Wikipedia, Second Line Parade “is a tradition in brass band parades in New Orleans, Louisiana. The “main line” or “first line” is the main section of the parade, or the members of the actual club with the parading permit as well as the brass band. Those who follow the band just to enjoy the music are called the ‘second line’.”

In Bouchercon’s Second Line Parade, the conference hosts and special guests (Harlan Coben, Heather Graham, Lee Child, David Morrell, R.L. Stine, etc) were in actual floats that led the rest of us down the streets to the Orpheum Theater. Once there, we got to watch/listen as Lee Child interview David Morrell.

So this first picture is of me and my friend during the parade (we were all given colorful parasols to carry…I chose yellow).

On Saturday night, The House of Blues in New Orleans closed down for a private party for Bouchercon authors and attendees. There was live music from Heather Graham and her band, as well as some other authors. It was a blast! My favorite part of the party was spending time with dear friends. If you happen to be mystery readers (as most of you are), you might recognize these two guys as Harlan Coben (on the left) and Andrew Grant (on the right)…

And finally, this was kind of cool to get from DD # 2 (via text) while I was in the Atlanta airport waiting for my connecting flight home. It’s from a newspaper article about an upcoming event I’m doing. Sometimes this stuff is a little surreal…
