a-cry-in-the-nightI’m re-reading an old favorite at the gym this week. In fact, it’s the book that turned my fiction writing aspirations toward mystery/suspense.

I’ve re-read this book many times. As I have the Laura Ingalls series when I was a kid.

Do you ever re-read? If so, what?

Three Things

Posted under Dreamer Mondays 5 Comments

Yet another weekend has come and gone far faster than I wish it had. Still, I have three things to share from what otherwise felt like a blur…

Saturday afternoon, DD # 2 and I did a little baking in preparation  for a visit I’ll have on Mystery Lover’s Kitchen next weekend. We made one of the desserts mentioned in next week’s release, The Silence of the Flans. While I’ll wait until my appearance on the blog to share what we made, I think I’m safe showing this picture…

Then DD # 1 came up on the train to eat dinner and spend the night before an audition she had lined up for Sunday morning. She picked a good night to come as I was trying out a new crock pot recipe that ended up being really good!

And then DH and I took in a music concert at a local venue with a group I grew up listening to thanks to my big brother. While I gravitated towards 80’s style music, myself, I remembered many of the songs and enjoyed the flashback. Blue Oyster Cult is known for hits like Godzilla and Don’t Fear the Reaper.

So that was my weekend. Now tell us three things from your weekend…

Question Time

Posted under That's Life Wednesdays 3 Comments

I feel like asking more questions today. 🙂

  1. What’s the most recent “just because” you’ve received?
  2. Last time you sent someone something “just because” and what was it?
  3. Funniest thing your pet does?
  4. Weirdest thing your pet does?

Genre Time

open bookA few book-related questions for today.

  1. What is your normal go-to genre? Why?
  2. What is your second go-to genre?
  3. Have you ever reached for something way outside your reading comfort zone and found yourself pleasantly surprised? If so what was it and what appealed to you?

Three Things

Posted under Dreamer Mondays 5 Comments

Although it’s technically still the weekend on account of being President’s Day, I’m going to do my Three Things today, anyway. My girls had a “sister weekend” at DD # 1’s school, so DH and I continued on down the road to Lancaster County,  PA for a research weekend. Lancaster being Lancaster had its calming effects on the whole process and turned it into a mini getaway that had me learning stuff I needed to learn and having fun.

So here we go:

On the learning side, I knew a lot from my countless research trips to the area in the past. But, as always, I stumbled across something I hadn’t known before which will invariably be my jumping-off point for Amish # 6…which I’ll get to after my surprise project and the real reason for the research (yup, I’m being cryptic–for now) trip.  I snapped some very cool and interesting pictures over the two days, many of which I’ll share with readers in the weeks and months ahead. Those shots will be more interesting than this one…

While there, we stopped in a few Amish shops. These homemade whoopee pies looked too good to pass up…

On Sunday afternoon, we stopped in one of my favorite towns–Lititz. While there, we found a Speakeasy that required a password to get in. DH, being quick on his feet, gave one that got us in. 🙂

So that’s my three.  Your turn.

A Sprinkle of Inspiration, Perhaps?

Posted under Writing Thursdays 3 Comments

I thought I’d share some writing quotes with all of you today. And in the event some of you have given some thought to trying your hand at writing a book, maybe one of them will inspire you…

Piling Up

Posted under That's Life Wednesdays 3 Comments

I’m back. I intended to post yesterday, but I was wiped out after my daughter’s shadow day at one of her college choices on Monday evening, and I didn’t have a ton of energy yesterday.

So, what’s been going on around here…

  1. I’m working on copy edits for 30 Second Death (Tobi Tobias Mystery # 2).
  2. I’m planning a quick 24-hour research trip to Lancaster County so I’ve been making a few tour reservations.
  3. I’m getting a little blue about the thought of my youngest going off to college.
  4. Every time I turn around, something else is being added to my calendar over the next few months. March is going to be one busy, busy month.
  5. DH and I went to a show for Valentine’s Day last night.
  6. There’s both too much and not enough chocolate in the house right now.
  7. I need to get back to the gym. I haven’t been there in a full week and it’s driving me nuts.
  8. I have a hankering to start trying one new dinner recipe a week. Not sure why, other than getting bored with the old standbys.

I think that about covers things for now. Anything cool (or simply busy-worthy) going on/coming up for any of you?
