Good or Bad Choice

On Chris’s excellent suggestion last week, let’s talk about books that have been made into movies.

What book-turned-movie do you think did it right when it came to casting a particular character?

And which book-turned-movie do you think made a major oops when casting a particular character and why?  Who do you think would  have made a better choice and why?

I thought the Joffrey character in Games of Throne was perfect. I don’t like the Arya character. To me from the books she was much smaller and plain.

Going the other way, I really liked the Expanse TV show but now that I’m reading the books I’m struggling with how they describe “Joe” the cop vs. what he looks like in the TV series. But the Captain (Jim) is dead on.

To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite movies. I think Gregory Peck played an excellent Atticus Finch. I think everyone in the movie was great. I love both the movie and the book!

The Girl on the Train, in my opinion, was a horrible movie. The acting (all characters) was so bad it hurt to watch. The movie didn’t even take place in the same country! I’m very disappointed in this movie. Better choice??? I’ll have to get back to you on that.

Can I add a third question?
What book would you like to see turned into a movie?
For me…The Woman in Cabin 10. I really enjoyed the plot of this book and think it would make an interesting movie.

    Have a great day all!

I agree with Andrea on To Kill a Mockingbird. The Harry Potter series they did a great job on casting, they were pretty much what I pictured, however when Richard Harris passed away and Michael Gambon took over, he changed the character, I wasn’t impressed. I know that there is a book to movie that I didn’t like but do you think that I can remember it? Oh the newer 3 Musketeers, they changed a lot of it from the book.

Chris, very interesting that when you saw the movie before reading the book, you preferred the movie casting than the description in the book. Very interesting…

Andrea, I’d like to see some of Harlan Coben’s Myron books made into movies. Though who would play Myron, I’m not sure.

Debbie, I’ve not read HP (I know–gasp!) but I’ve always heard the casting was spot on although I know a lot of people felt the girl was too pretty compared to the description in the book??? I don’t know. Your thoughts since I haven’t read them?

No I don’t think the girl who played Hermione was too pretty, in the book they just say that she had wild hair that was bushy and in the first couple of movies they tried to do that, as a matter of fact Harry’s was supposed to be too.
