It Wasn’t So Long Ago…
Last night I took Dear Daughter #1 and Step Son #2 tp a program at their school dealing with college. It was called “The Admissions Game” and, essentially, gave us a few ins and outs of the process as it pertains to college.
And, of course, it got me thinking. To the schools I applied to (three), to the schools I got accepted to (three), and to the school I went to (Xavier University in Cincinnati).
Kind of a little weird to be doing this from the parent’s perspective now…
So let’s do some Bits & Pieces related to that, shall we?
1) Do you remember how many colleges you applied to?
2) What did you major in?
3) Is your career today in line with your college major?
4) If you had it to do all over again, would you change anything about your college experience?

Elbow Grease
In honor of the scarecrow-making workshop my girls and I will be taking tomorrow morning, I figured I’d go in a creative direction with this week’s Bits & Pieces.
1) What’s the last thing you made with your own two hands?
2) What’s something you’ve always wanted to learn to make?
3) What’s your favorite tool?
4) Any big projects on the horizon?

Autumn in the Air
Autumn is officially here, at least as far as the calendar goes. It is, without a doubt, my favorite season of the year. I love the colors, the slight nip in the air at night, the increased baking, etc.
So here’s to a Bits & Pieces worthy of Autumn:
1) What’s your favorite part of Fall?
2) Favorite Autumn treat?
3) Crock pot or barbecue?
4) Favorite pie?
5) Scarecrows or ghosts?

Where Were You?
As the anniversary of the 9-11 attacks looms, I find myself remembering that day. And, because of the heavyness of that day, I remember details I wouldn’t remember otherwise. The same goes for other major events in history.
For instance, I remember I was in the family room of my parents’ home when Ronald Reagan was shot. I was in 8th grade and just home from school (watching General Hospital to be specific). When the Challenger exploded I was a senior in high school and we were watching the launch in one of my classes. I remember looking at the teacher when the smoke trails went in different directions, wanting him or her (can’t remember the teacher) to say that was normal.
Then, of course, there are the smaller “events” that are tied to things, too. I was on vacation with my family when JFK Junior’s plane went into the ocean. I was in Hawaii when Princess Di was killed.
Yet, if you asked me specifics about something I did five days ago, I couldn’t tell you. I imagine the same is true for most of you…
So here’s my questions for today. They’re all “where were you” questions…
1) Where were you when Ronald Reagan was shot?
2) Where were you when the Challenger exploded?
3) Where were you when you first learned of 9/11?
4) Is there another “moment in history” you tie to something you were doing/place you were?

What Do You Do?
First, if you missed yesterday’s post, scroll down and give it a read (it’s a fine example of some mighty special people).
Second, let’s have some fun with today’s Bits & Pieces, shall we?
1) You come across $ 10 in your recently dusted off winter coat. What do you do with it?
2) You’ve got two hours all to yourself. What do you do with it?
3) Someone hands you a hundred bucks and says you have to spend it on someone else, who do you pick and what do you do/buy?

They Come, They Go
Just about everywhere you go right now, you’re seeing an image of a Smurf. The push, of course, is in preparation for the new 3-D Smurf movie but I can’t help be transported back a few decades everytime I see the little blue guy.
Yup. I had Smurfs. In fact, my “cooking Smurf” sits in a kitchen cabinet in the house right now.
I had one for all of the things I liked to do. Rollerskating, writing, playing, etc. I’m not sure where they’ve all gone to, but, even if they’ve disappeared into the depths of an attic somewhere, at least I have one.
So today’s Bits & Pieces is more about fads…and us. Ready?
1) What fads (in terms of toys) did you get sucked into?
2) Any fad toy you still have somewhere?
3) Ever get one of these fad toys and find that you were disappointed because it didn’t live up to the hype? What/Why?

Tunes ‘N More
Today’s Bits & Pieces are all about setting the mood wherever you go.
1) You’re in the car, driving a winding two-lane road. Windows are open, sun is shining. What song do you want to hear on your car radio?
2) You’re at the beach, tanning. First day off in a long time. What song do you want to hear in your ears?
3) Enjoying a little alone-time with your significant other. What song do you want to hear on the radio?
4) Same scenerios…only now add one more must-have to each one. Can be a food, a backdrop, whatever…

Bits & Pieces, Pieces & Bits
It’s that time of the week again. And I’ve got some fun questions for all of you.
So let’s get to it, shall we?
1) What was your favorite cereal as a kid? When is the last time you ate it?
2) What’s the first thing you notice about other people?
3) If you were a crayon in a Crayola box, what COLOR would you be?
4) Scary movies or happy endings?
5) Do you untie your shoes before you take them off?

FOOD!
I don’t know if it’s the fact that it’s summer, or I’m just in an odd mood, but I have a HUGE craving for a really good hamburger joint. You know, the kind that serves milkshakes (with those little silver cups they leave along with your glass) too.
Perhaps that’s why this Bits & Pieces is about food…
1) What’s the last thing you cooked and/or baked?
2) What’s something you’re hankering to cook and/or bake?
3) Any strong cravings at the moment now that I brought up a hamburger joint with milkshakes?
4) Who do you think was/is the best cook in your life?
